BEARS HOCKEY CLUB ENDS REGULAR SEASON 2ND IN GNASH STANDINGS
The Mount Juliet/Green Hill/Lebanon Bears Hockey Club ended its regular season in 2nd place in GNASH standings with a 12-1-1 record, falling only to GNASH Cup champs Montgomery Bell Academy. The finish gives them the second seed in the post-season double elimination Preds Cup tournament as they chase their first ever league championship. Under the leadership of first year head coach Bradford Winfrey, the Bears have seen their best finish in club history.
The Bears finished the season going 3-1 with wins against the previously unbeaten Brentwood Bruins (2-1), JP2/MLK/CPA Knights (4-2) and Franklin Admirals (6-3). Their only loss of the season was to the Big Red of MBA after a 7-2 loss in a game of the two only unbeaten teams.
Bears senior and assistant captain Linden Palmer finished the regular season in 3rd place in overall points with 40 points (21 goals, 19 assists), just one behind the league leaders. Bears junior Joey Simonek finished 9th overall with 25 points (5G, 20A) and senior and team captain Michael Settle finished 13th with 23 points (10G, 13A). Palmer also finished 2nd in goals scored with 21 while senior Jake Panter had 13 goals, good for 13th place. Michael Settle and junior Anthony Paponetti had 10 goals each, placing them in 21st position. Simonek finished in 3rd place in assists (20), while Palmer was in 4th (19), and Settle in 10th (13). Notably, Palmer led the league in power play goals with 5.
Goaltender Robbie Simonek finished 3-1-1 with a 87.9% save percentage (7th overall) while Michael Dillard had a 6-0-0 record and a 1.67 goals against average (5th overall).
